Valeroso is from the southern New Mexico forestry lands and was born in 2000. He is descended from the original Spanish colonial horses which shows in his conformation and small stature at just over 13 HH. Prior to coming here, he was a free roaming horse who was part of a small bachelor band of three. They were brought in for their own safety due to extreme harassment by people. Valeroso himself was so continuously chased by people on ATVs that his knees and ligaments were permanently damaged.
Valeroso is an unrelenting bully who, unlike Griton, has been unable to modify his behavior. He will frequently court the other band members with offers of play or grooming, then without provocation he will attack with intent to harm. While it lasted, Valeroso's friendship with Besol calmed his demeanor and made him more integrated with the herd.
Because of his disruptive behavior, Valeroso is kept isolated on the fringes of the herd.

the band to give seemingly endless new chances to Valeroso has been touching; yet still, he cannot give up his disruptive behavior. As a result, Valeroso remains on the outskirts of the band, shunned for his aggression.
With the addition of Besol to the herd, we thought Valeroso finally had a lasting friend. Unfortunately, Valeroso was unable to sustain that friendship and he resorted to his bully behavior by attacking Besol. This caused the entire herd to once again banish him. Valeroso challenges everyone but gives ground to them all.
