Besol is a Rocky Mountain cross, born in 2000, and he is the only domestic horse in the Star's Rest Band. He is from the mountains north of us and was used primarily for hunting elk. It was a gamble bringing a domestic horse into the group, the last one we tried had been overly imprinted by humans and after two years, had still not been able to adapt to herd life and so we found him a more suitable home. Besol has shown himself to be very successful at adapting and after a year, is a solid member of the band.
Besol is a non-aggressive horse who minds his manners and is not confrontational. He is playful when approached for play; but is not likely to offer grooming or other close behavior. Instead, he stands near the Inner Circle until approached by one of them. In some ways, he is still learning how to talk 'herd speak' and his relationship with humans

can be edgy. Unlike the Wild Boys, Besol had been well taught to think of humans as predators and unsafe. For him, the greatest challenge is to accept that these particular humans mean him no harm and that he can interact with us in the same way he would the other horses.
Until recently, Besol was at the bottom end of things and could be moved by even Valeroso. A skirmish we will be sharing soon in the Wild Hearts blog will tell how Besol was more completely embraced by the Inner Circle and no longer loses ground to Valeroso.
Besol is a quiet and self-contained horse who avoids confrontation.
